Let's talk about mentorship
|
Specifically: how bad we all are at actually asking for it. The last two years, while opening DECANT Napa, I went quiet. I pulled back from a lot of the outreach and mentoring I used to do for folks coming up in this industry. I had to, because my own mental health and this business needed all of me.
But when we closed DECANT SF this summer, something shifted. I found myself needing to reach out, to talk to friends who've been in my corner for years, and to seek opinions and experience from folks I'd call mentors (even though half of them would probably blush at the word). Talking to them felt embarrassingly good, honestly, like I'd forgotten I was allowed to talk about my career with others.
This wine industry, this valley, is going through it right now (I don't need to tell you that). We need a network of people to talk to more than ever. So even though I spend a lot of my time handing out guidance, I had to remember: I need it too. That's why DECANT is partnering with Bâtonnage Forum for weekly pop-in mentoring, starting this month with author, speaker, and global wine educator Elaine Chukan Brown. I hope you'll join us, because it's never too late or too early in your career to find someone to confide in or ask questions of.

The Raclette Social: A Two-Year Anniversary Party 🇨🇭🫕🍷🪩

Cheese bubbles under a heat lamp, melting softly at the edge. Someone scrapes it onto your plate over sliced potatoes. You eat it standing up, glass in your other hand, in a room full of people doing the same thing.
That's the night. Two years of DECANT, and we're marking it with Raclette melting and wine pouring from a country that keeps almost all of it for itself.
Featuring Swiss wines from DDI Wines and Cheese from Nicasio Valley. Saturday, October 10, 2026 4:30–7:30pm

A Loire Valley Journey of Châteaux, Wine & Culinary Elegance.
I'm partnering with ENV Travel on a 10-day journey through one of the most historically significant wine regions in the world. ENV are pros at this kind of immersive, luxury food and wine travel at an incredibly high level. This is not your typical bus tour. This trip will take us from Orléans west to Angers, hitting Sancerre, Vouvray, Chinon, Saumur, and Anjou along the way. We'll be staying in 5-star château accommodations the whole time, with private producer access and Michelin-caliber dining. Plus, visits to the historic chateaux at Chambord, Chenonceau, and Villandry!

LET'S BE FRIENDS!
At DECANT, we’re all about real wine and real connection. Our shelves are stocked with sustainably made, small-production bottles from around the world—wines with a sense of place and a story to tell. We’re a bottle shop, a wine bar, and a space for learning and community.
That means curated flights and snacks, a monthly wine club we call The Bottle Cult, pop-ups, blind tastings, winemaker nights, and plenty of reasons to swing by with friends (or solo—we’ve got bar seats). We also carry some of our favorite pantry staples—tinned fish, cheeses, olive oils, and more—so you can grab a last-minute gift or pull together a great night in.
We'll see you soon! Cara, Gillian, Simi & Ana
